Blue Card Policy

In order to be eligible as a Volunteer working with children within an education setting, there are several legislative government requirements in-line with the National Volunteering Standards Australia.

In most circumstances, Villanova Volunteers are required to have a current Blue Card (Volunteer). However as a Villanova Volunteer, you are exempt from this requirement if you are:
- a parent of a current Villanova student (unless you are a restricted person, who cannot rely on this exemption, see link below) volunteering in areas of the school where there is Villanova staff supervision present (such as the Tuckshop, Library, Music and Instrumental areas); and
- a teacher registered with the Queensland College of Teachers. Teachers employed at schools other than Villanova College will need to apply for an Exemption Status via the Blue Card website.

Blue/Exemption Card - College Requirements

Based on the information you have submitted, you are required to hold a current Blue/Exemption Card in order to be eligible for volunteering with children at Villanova College.

In order to keep our community safe and ensure that we are abiding by Student Protection processes (regardless of whether you are a parent volunteer or community volunter), the College requires you to have a Blue/Exemption Card for the following activities:
- Volunteer Sports Coaches/ Managers
- Volunteering for Musical/ Drama Productions
Blue Cards for the above based areas are required as there may be times where there is no Villanova based staff supervision present (ie. before/after school hours or weekend volunteering).
Under 18 years of age?

If you are under 18 years of age, you will not require a Blue card or further evidence to work or volunteer with Children. However, should you turn 18 within the next 3 months, the College encourages you to start your application as soon as possible. This is to ensure that there are no delays to your Blue Card Volunteer application and that you are able to continue your volunteer activities in-line with the"No Card, No Start" rules after you turn 18.
